seen more than a couple posts recently laughing about lucanis' "like a kiss goodbye" line and how it's downright comical coming from him and how can illario not have jumped on that with all the sibling teasing???

(which is all accurate to a point and p funny, don't get me wrong)

but i think there's a point being missed there: lucanis is, in the most of the scene but especially the beginning, very much treating rook as an employer-slash-coworker who happens to be helping him deal with his zara "contract".

elsewhere spite says there's three kinds of people in his worldview: family, enemies, contracts. rook is just a contract at that point. it's still early in his personal quest, he hasn't had the time or the opportunity yet to see how rook really breaks those nice little boxes of compartmentalization. there are ways these kinds of meetings are supposed to go.

so he flirts, he's charming, because that's what is expected of him as a crow. this is a skill he's observed, and been taught, and learned from others, and can deploy easily when it doesn't mean anything. it's enjoyable to keep banter going with rook later in the conversation because it's banter, there's a rhythm to it that he can work with.

when it matters, when it's with someone he actually cares about, when it's real, you can tell. comparing coffee to a kiss goodbye? that's nothing. that's just rote small talk, meant to put a client at ease and endear them to lucanis. and illario would know that too.

You might be asking why I am suddenly back, consistently, on this hell-site. I recently got an iPhone after I accidentally bricked my five year old Android by dunking it in a bowl of milk. Getting an iPhone was not my plan, but it was the only phone that was “free” and that I could walk out of the store with that day with an Otterbox case and a screen protector as I cannot be trusted to not accidentally yeet my phone into a bowl of milk.

Well how does this apply to you suddenly posting again? Good question….and I hate to admit it but the tumblr app is more streamlined for iPhone than it is for Android. So looks like you’re stuck with me.

Something very random and very small I just adore is the caretaker(s) taking whumpee shopping after they’ve been rescued. They’ve been gone for so long, they need new clothes, new things for their living space, general necessities and the like. Stocking up on foods they enjoy they haven’t had access to in forever, buying them little things they see and like just because they deserve to be spoiled. I think it’s sweet.

Okay, but what if we take this a slightly different route: Danny wakes up and he is, for once, not the one looming over someone else in the dark.

Batman is in his room.

is in

his ROOM.

Danny fully panics, goes invisible, goes intangible, and sinks into the floor, only to pop into a stairwell that. What the hell. Why is. What-

"YOU'RE ROBIN?!"

And Damian, who thought he was alone in the cave and just took off his mask, shrieks like a little girl.

Okay, so we all know of the patented Fenton Child Neglect, and I just had a thought. Did Danny ever come to his parents in the middle of the night for any kind of help? Like, if he had a nightmare or if his stomach hurt in the unholy 3am in the morning kind of help. Because my guess is no, he didn't. He knew they were busy enough with their work, so he didn't want to disrupt their rest.

He probably went to Jazz, and she helped him, of course, like a good sister she is, right. But then, somewhere around 8 or 10 y.o. he would have realized that, well, Jazz has classes in the morning. Also, she does a lot of other stuff, she cooks, she keeps their bills in check, and she helps him with homework. She also needs her rest at night.

So I imagine Danny, who woke up because of a bad dream, just silently standing over his sleeping sister in the darkness of her room, trying to figure out if his little child problem is enough to justify waking her up. Most of the times the answer is no. He can deal with it by himself. He is 10, and he doesn't really need any help calming down after a nightmare. It's okay.

It's even worse after the Accident. Even though his problems are not just bad dreams anymore, and even if Jazz knows, he still doesn't wake her up when he needs to patch himself up after a ghost fight. Jazz needs her rest. He can manage on his own. Despite knowing this, he still comes to her room sometimes, even more silent than before with his newly acquired powers, and just stands there. Looking at his sister, who is sleeping peacefully. Debating if it would be okay to wake her up to help him with the cut on his arm or a burn on his thigh or the hit to his head that made him dizzy.

He never ends up waking her.

Now, fast forward a few years, Danny is now living with Waynes. Doesn't matter how or why, could be the Bad Ending with Fentons, or he is Damian's long lost twin, whatever, he is living with the Batfam now.

So one time Danny wakes up at night because of a nightmare, and he does exactly what he is used to doing for many years, he goes looking for someone. After all, just looking at sleeping Jazz used to calm him down somewhat, sure his new family won't mind if he just... watches them for a few minutes before going back to his room, right?

Wrong.

Turns out his eyes are glowing just slightly because of the adrenaline rush of the nightmare, and the Bats are a lot more vigilant to their surroundings while sleeping.

The whole house is quickly awake because of the screaming and the sounds of fighting and cursing.

I saw who won the election today and honestly all I can think about is making soup and stews to freeze because I feel good prices are going to soar higher.

Like it's the only thing on my mind, mainly because I know how to sew a stitch and put a button on....I honestly have no idea why I'm taking stock of my survival skills right now.

Last time this happened I was more focused on getting my paperwork from government agencies during lockdown to get my student loans forgiven.

Now I’m looking up videos of silicone molds vs freezer bags and how long does rice and orzo last in mason jars? Do not need a flint starter? Can I make my own pasta and freeze it?

How do I convince my family that I’m not paranoid about this and that making sure our pantry is prepared for lean months is worth investing in heartier times?

one day i'm gonna write a drabble abt how aisling negotiates with the new chapter of the company after learning that the squad accidentally kidnapped two members, and she goes to them to ask for leniency, and the reason that it needs to happen now is bc this dialogue entered my gd head and it unlocked an entire wave of aisling vibes:
